A native of Wisconsin, double bassist Isaiah Simons is in his second year of the Master of Music program at Michigan State University, where he studies on a full graduate fellowship with Kevin Brown. He joined the Lansing Symphony bass section at the start of the 2018-19 season, and performs as a substitute musician with the Midland Symphony. Additionally, he has performed as principal bass with the Orchestre de la Francophonie, Earth and Air: String Orchestra, and the Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra.
Isaiah completed his undergraduate training at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with renowned pedagogue Scott Dixon. In addition to his formal training, he has attended summer programs such as the Strings Academy at Domaine Forget, and the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute. When he is not playing bass, Isaiah enjoys playing racquetball, cooking, and watching NBA basketball.
