Side-by-Side Concert

This spring concert will feature the LSO and a number of talented, young musicians in the Lansing area. Students in grades 9 through 12 will be selected by their band and orchestra directors to join the various instrument sections of the orchestra. The first place winner of the 2008 Symphony Youth Competition and area Suzuki students will also be highlighted on this concert. In addition, the winning composition written by the first place winner of the 2008 Young Composer's Competition will be featured. Pleasee join us on April 19, 2009 at Pattengill Middle School for this FREE concert! 
                                                                           

Symphony Youth Competition

The Symphony Youth Competition encourages talented, young musicians to develop their skills and musicianship by performing in a competitive setting. Area instrumentalists in grades 6 through 12 are eligible to participate. In addition to a cash prize, the first place winner receives a traveling trophy and an invitation to perform with the LSO at the Side-by-Side Concert. Cash prizes are also awarded to second and third place winners. The 2009 Symphony Youth Competition will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the MSU College of Music.


Young Composers Competition

Young composers between the ages of 9 and 18 are invited to submit their original, orchestral compositions to the LSO for the third annual Young People’s Composition Contest. The winning piece is performed by the LSO at one of the Young People’s Concerts.


Symphony Infusion!

Discounted MasterWorks tickets are available to area Band and Orchestra Directors, private lesson teachers, and their students. This program is designed to make professional music more accessible to young instrumentalists and to encourage them to attend live concerts.
